AHIM service is an intelligent way for grid to communicate with users and easy way for users to sommunicate with their grids. AHIM will find best way to deliver a message to user based on it's importance, device user is logged in to (or may be, if they are offline but they can use phone) and wait for confirmation if this is necessary. Current methods of notifications include email, SMS and instant messaging. Phone notifications are coming soon. Users can think of AHIM as a secretary which is available 24/7. It always available fo users and knows the best way to communicate with them.

Other important purpose of AHIM is to receive messages from users and perform requested actions. For example, user could send their grid a request to create a memo or show all pending appointments, request grid status, etc - sometimes it is much more convenient than going through web user interface. Alternatively, a user could use a phone to call the grid to perform the same actions. The main point of AHIM is to provide grid-user communication at the right time and in the right way. The right way means the right delivery method and smart and proactive behavior of the service. User interaction must be as natural for user as possible.

As the majority of Coehl services AHIM is a distributed service taking advantage of failover and access-anywhere features of the platform. Platform provides AHIM service with user context information: which node the user is currently logged on, where the user can be physically based on the schedule, etc. This information is used to choose the right and most preferred delivery method for the message for the user at the moment.
